Meet the District VI Superintendent of the Year

Liberty-Perry Schools Leader Named IAPSS 2024 Superintendent of the Year for District VI

INDIANAPOLIS – September 25, 2023 – The superintendent of Liberty-Perry Community School Corporation, Dr. Bryan Rausch, 2024 Superintendent of the Year for District VI by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS). 

Winners are selected by other superintendents in their district who consider the qualifications and accomplishments of area colleagues and their instructional leadership in a time of limited resources. 

Liberty-Perry Community Schools is a rural district surrounding the town of Selma in eastern Delaware County. It was formed by a consolidation in 2007-2008 of Selma Elementary School, Selma Middle School and Wapahani High School. 

Raush says: “In my 15 years of serving as a superintendent, I have never been in a situation where the amount of funding was enough to do everything I feel is necessary to fulfill all of our students’ needs.  This difficult situation has deepened since the COVID pandemic. 

“Our administrative team began to look closely at our data and intentionally sharing it. The resulting competitive atmosphere showed that teachers were very willing to look at their students’ data, evaluate how and what they teach, and make the needed changes to help students achieve at a high level.” 

The district has made a conscious effort to attend and provide professional development both at conferences and in the classroom and employed a reading specialist to help catch students up from pandemic losses. 

They also teamed up with Ball State University to pool educational resources to build the district’s teachers’ capacity.

Rausch also reached out to a neighboring district to ask how they were succeeding in their elementary math program. They then took an already competitive atmosphere and implemented a system to share student progress weekly. “It feels like a simple approach, said Raush, “but it has led to a lot of student success.”
